The Tetra factory in Melle<\/strong> is a true landmark\u2014not only historically but also economically. Founded in 1951 by Dr. Ulrich Baensch<\/strong>, the company revolutionized the aquatics industry by introducing dry fish food<\/strong>, making ornamental fish care more accessible to enthusiasts worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was a fantastic opportunity for participants to experience firsthand the testing laboratory\u2014the heart of innovation<\/strong>\u2014where researchers and aquatic biology specialists meticulously analyze every new fish food formula and aquarium care solution<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a dedicated area, comparative tests are conducted against competitor products to ensure that Tetra\u2019s formulas consistently meet the highest standards<\/strong>. This behind-the-scenes glimpse offered a deeper appreciation for the science and dedication that go into every Tetra product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Festival participants also had the chance to step inside one of the most fascinating laboratories<\/strong> at the Tetra factory<\/strong>, where they discovered a microscopic universe essential to aquarium health<\/strong>\u2014the bacteria farm<\/strong>. The first evening of the Tetra Aquatics Festival<\/strong> concluded with a special dinner<\/strong> at the aquarium inside Osnabr\u00fcck Zoo* <\/strong>\u2014a project that Tetra has continuously supported since its inception<\/strong>. The venue was thoughtfully arranged to provide both the organizers and participants with an exceptional and memorable experience<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dinner was not only the perfect occasion to announce the seven competing teams<\/strong>, introduce the jury<\/strong>, and present the schedule for the following day<\/strong>, but it also fostered a relaxed and friendly atmosphere<\/strong> among all attendees. Adding to the magic of the evening, guests were treated to an exclusive nighttime tour of Osnabr\u00fcck Zoo<\/strong>, making it a truly unforgettable experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a brief welcome speech<\/strong> from Casey Sims and Janina<\/strong> Garving<\/strong> (Brand Director Aquatics), the second day of the festival<\/strong> was entirely dedicated to the competition<\/strong>. The three judges\u2014two renowned aquascapers, Ji\u0159\u00ed Pova from the Czech Republic<\/strong> and Mihal Adamek from Poland<\/strong>, alongside Casey Sims, Vice President of Marketing & Innovation at Tetra<\/strong>\u2014were fully immersed in the event, constantly moving between contestants, analyzing, evaluating, and admiring their creations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The atmosphere was vibrant and energetic<\/strong>, with aquascapers working with enthusiasm and professionalism<\/strong>. The seven aquariums<\/strong> created during the competition reached an exceptionally high level of craftsmanship<\/strong>, showcasing both technical skill and artistic vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was also pleasantly surprised by the incredible vibe of the aquascaping community, where many participants were meeting for the first time. Tetra Romania: How was the organization? Would you change anything or have any suggestions for future events? Was there anything you wished for beyond what you experienced at this event?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cristian Asaftei: <\/strong>“From an organizational standpoint, there\u2019s absolutely nothing to criticize. The first evening was all about relaxation, the next day we learned new things at the production facility, we were pleasantly surprised by the visit and dinner at the zoo, and on the final day, we got to put our knowledge into practice.<\/em> When it comes to materials and workspace, everything was top-notch\u2014plentiful, diverse, and well-prepared for everyone<\/strong>.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dorin Romaniuc:<\/strong> “The organization of the Tetra Aquatics Festival<\/strong> was at the highest level<\/strong>, with outstanding conditions! No, I don\u2019t think anything needed to be changed. The experience was truly unique<\/strong>, we were warmly welcomed, and the time spent with the Tetra family<\/strong> was truly special.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

T.R.: How did you interact with the other participants and the organizers?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

C.A.: <\/strong>“The atmosphere was very friendly. It was really easy to connect with both the organizers and the participants\u2014most of them were very open and communicative.<\/em> I already knew some of the aquascapers from social media<\/strong>, which made it even easier to connect. We had exchanged ideas in the past, so there was already a sense of familiarity. Overall, it was amazing<\/strong> to finally meet other equally passionate people from different parts of Europe face-to-face<\/strong>.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

D.R.: <\/em><\/strong>“First of all, I already knew some of the participants, but we had never had the chance to meet in person. The rest of the group integrated seamlessly<\/strong>, and it felt like we were one big family.<\/em> As for the organizers\u2014I have nothing but the highest praise<\/strong> for them.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

T.R.: Did you find the competition difficult or particularly challenging?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

C.A.: <\/strong>“I always embrace a challenge with enthusiasm. It\u2019s true that the dimensions of the aquarium<\/strong> weren\u2019t the most ideal for aquascaping. However, despite that\u2014and adding the extra difficulty of working with the material we chose\u2014we still managed to create, in just five hours, a scape worthy of an international competition<\/strong>, with an impressive sense of depth, layering, and intricate details<\/strong> that are hard to achieve.”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

D.R.: <\/strong>“Not at all\u2014on the contrary, this is exactly what we all wanted! We had all the materials and tools we needed<\/strong> to unleash our creativity. The biggest challenge was the aquarium\u2019s dimensions<\/strong>, which weren\u2019t exactly optimal, especially the depth<\/strong>, which made things a bit tricky. But in the end, that\u2019s the beauty of this hobby\u2014adapting and making it work<\/strong>.”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

T.R.: How did you work as a team? What role did each of you have?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

C.A.: <\/strong>“I first met Rodo<\/strong> a few years ago on social media. He was the first person to guide me into the world of aquascaping<\/strong>, and I\u2019ve learned so much from him. Over time, we\u2019ve developed a dynamic where we evaluate each other\u2019s work, exchange ideas, and support each other<\/strong> in every project we take on.<\/em> Because of that, collaborating was effortless<\/strong> for me. Whenever I face a challenge, I become completely immersed<\/strong> in my work, tuning everything else out. So, if at some point I unintentionally made things difficult for him, I know he\u2019ll forgive me<\/strong>. \ud83d\ude0a He understands how much I love what I do, and sometimes I get so focused that I forget to stop and check in<\/strong>\u2014but he knows it always comes from passion. \ud83d\ude0a”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Knowing each other so well made it incredibly easy to come up with a plan and execute it seamlessly.<\/em> We complemented each other perfectly!”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

T.R.: Would you like to participate in other similar events organized by Tetra?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

C.A.: <\/strong>“I hope I don\u2019t miss a single one.”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

D.R.: <\/strong>“Absolutely! When\u2019s the next one?”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

T.R.: After visiting the factory and its production departments, did you gain a better understanding of the complexity behind the development and manufacturing of fish food formulas and water care solutions?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

C.A.: <\/strong>“The factory visit helped me understand things you simply can\u2019t see from the outside<\/strong>\u2014for example, why certain solutions vary depending on the market they\u2019re sold in, or the intricate process behind producing high-quality<\/strong> products.<\/em> But what impressed me the most was the level of automation<\/strong>.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

D.R.: <\/strong>“I was really curious to see what a factory dedicated to aquatics products<\/strong> looks like, and now I\u2019ve had the chance to experience it firsthand. I discovered so many fascinating things, especially in the microbiology laboratory<\/strong>.<\/em> I learned about the bacteria that populate our filters and aquariums<\/strong> and their essential role in maintaining the sustainability of both freshwater and saltwater<\/strong> environments.<\/em> As for fish food, what I found most interesting was that it\u2019s not harmful to humans<\/strong>\u2014in fact, I even tasted<\/strong> some of the pellets myself! Honestly, I had no idea that was even a possibility.<\/em> We also got to explore Tetra\u2019s history<\/strong> in the factory\u2019s on-site museum<\/strong>, a journey spanning 75 years<\/strong>\u2014a testament to the professionalism and legacy<\/strong> behind this brand.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
